The surfing cult classic that propelled Keanu Reeves’ FBI agent Johnny Utah opposite the criminally brilliant Patrick Swayze as Bodhi into stardom, is now getting a 21st century make-over.
The reboot will feature former Home and Away star and Aussie local Luke Bracey as Keanu Reeves’ character, and he will be joined by Venezuelan actor Edgar Ramirez will portray Patrick Swayze’s character Bodhi, while fellow Aussie Teresa Palmer will play Samsara.
The Hollywood remake focuses on “a young FBI agent who infiltrates an extraordinary team of extreme sports athletes he suspects of masterminding a string of unprecedented, sophisticated corporate heists.”
Unlike the original film, which was directed by Oscar Award-winner Kathryn Bigelow, the new film will feature criminal masterminds that are so much more than surfers. In fact, they’re adrenaline junkies who seek out the most challenging extreme sports.
The two minute trailer alone showcases a variety of extreme sports, from snowboarding and rock climbing to skydiving and wing-suit flying.
Despite the remake upping the ante from the original, the new film will retain the same core as the original, with Michael De Luca, one of the film’s producers explaining the vision.
“Point Break wasn’t just a film, it was a Zen meditation on testosterone fuelled action and manhood in the late 20th century and we hope to create the same for the young 21st!”
Point Break will hit Australian cinemas on January 1, 2016
