Rumours have long swirled that Sex and the City will return to the big screen, and it seems the plans haven’t completely gone out the window.
Sarah Jessica Parker, who plays fashionista and journalist Carrie Bradshaw, says they’ve outlined a plot – but whether or not fans will get to see it is another story.
“We’ve never really had a real conversation about it, other than that I know there is a story,” says the 49-year-old. “I think it’s a really lovely idea, wonderful story but whether or not we tell it remains to be seen.”
Speaking about the TV series’ 1998 debut on HBO, she reveals, “When the project was first presented to me, you have to remember that at the time HBO was a very different channel. It was a very male-orientated platform for distribution.
“What was lovely is that we produced an entire first season without being on the air so we had no idea, first of all no point of reference.
“It was a voice that was new and it was slightly subversive, and it had a point of view that was sort of singular so we couldn’t look at anything else and say if that had success then we might.”
Sex and the City, which also starred Kristin Davis, Kim Cattrall and Cynthia Nixon, who played Charlotte, Samantha and Miranda respectively, ran until 2004. Four years later fans were treated to the first blockbuster movie.
They returned in 2010 for the sequel, which was set in Abu Dhabi.
So will we see the girls’ adventures continue? We certainly hope so!
