She was Capital Barbie aka Elle Woods in Legally Blonde and now Reese Witherspoon wants to bring the origin story of iconic doll Barbie to the big screen.
Working under her production banner Pacific Standard, it’s been reported by Variety that a movie based on Robin Gerber’s book *Barbie and Ruth: The
Story of the World’s Most Famous Doll and the Woman Who Created Her* is in development.
The 2010 book tells the story of how Barbie creator, Ruth Handler, was inspired by her daughter to create a grown-up doll for girls, ultimately transforming the toy industry.
Also helping to produce the untitled project is Bold Films, with their chairman Michel Litvak admitting he’s very excited about the Barbie origin story.
“Ruth Handler’s inspiring true story reveals the triumphs and struggles of the genius businesswoman behind the creation of Barbie, the most iconic doll in the world,” he said.
The book has yet to be adapted into a script, and it remains unknown who will play the inspiring doll creator.
As it happens, Reese’s name has been linked as a possible candidate to portray the famed Mattel doll in a separate live-action film project written by Juno screenwriter, Diablo Cody.
While there’s no word whether the mum-of-three is interested in starring in either Barbie projects, with Reese’s charming smile and bubbly personality, she’d be fantastic match for both!
No matter who stars in the movie, the story is in good hands. The Oscar winner’s production company are behind some of Hollywood’s biggest films including Hot Pursuit, Wild, as well as Gone Girl.
