But those expecting a fit and fanciful Turner a la the first Pirates of the Caribbean might be disappointed, considering [spoilers!] Will sunk to a watery death at the end of the third film, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.

Orlando hinted at his return previously, stating if he did reprise his famous gig, he would be ‘gnarly’, like Bill Nighy’s Davy Jones.

“I’m of course Davy Jones now, so I’m down the bottom of the ocean. It might be kind of fun to do something where I’m rumbling round the bottom of the ocean, because I won’t look anything like me. Get all gnarly,” the 38-year-old told IGN.

“I’m not entirely sure that [I’ll be back] just yet, but there are talks,” the father-of-one said, “Basically they want to reboot the whole franchise, I think, and do something with me and the relationship with my son.”

The very happy news was announced by the Disney executives at the recent conference to thunderous applause – although that could have been for Johnny Depp who took to the stage in full Jack Sparrow costume for the fans.

Orlando is set to reprise his pirate role in the latest Pirates of the Caribbean installment.

The plot of the new film is expected to revolve around a “down on his luck” Captian Jack who is just trying to scrape by, coming unexpectedly face-to-face with his old arch nemesis, Captain Salazar, who is determined to wipe out all the pirates – including Jack.

Following his scuffle with Captain Salazar, Jack’s “only hope” is to locate the mythical Trident of Poseidon, which can control the seas.

Orlando’s character, Will, however, will still be bound to the undead ship, The Flying Dutchman, and unable to return to his wife, Elizabeth, and son, Will III.

Geoffrey Rush, Javier Bardem, David Wenham and Brenton Thwaites will be returning, along with Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom, and new faces, Kaya Scodelario and Golshifteh Farahani will be joining the cast.

It is not currently known if Keira Knightley, AKA Elizabeth Swann, will return to the franchise after the birth of her daughter, Edie.

The movie is set for release in 2017.
