Directors usually have to go through a long audition process to find the star of their directorial debut. Italian director Marco Perego-Saldana, however, just had to ask his other half.
Seasoned actress Zoe Saldana will star in new romantic drama Keyhole Garden. The couple married in secret back in 2013 and both took each other’s last names. This will be their first time working on a project together. Learn more facts about Saldana in the video above.

Perego-Saldana and Rick Rapoza wrote the script, which will trace the sprawling romance of a man and woman whose love for each other struggles to overcome the divisiveness of life on America’s southern border.
The film aims to be a timely exploration of the humanity of immigration and the fragility of life through three interwoven narratives: a young boy trying to save his undocumented friend from deportation; an immigration agent unknowingly dooming a former lover; and a cartel trafficker carrying out his last mission.
Finance and sales company the Exchange’s CEO Brian O’Shea announced in that Saldana would be starring in the project at Cannes this year.
According to Variety The Exchange is trying to bring the new film to international buyers at the Marché du Film and CAA is taking care of sales in the U.S.

“Working with Zoe and Marco on this project is very exciting for me. Both of them are extremely talented and passionate to bring this beautiful love story to life. They have an incredible team behind them to deliver a commercial and successful movie,” said O’Shea.
The cameras for this one are scheduled to start rolling in August. Saldana, on screen now in Avengers: Endgame (watch the trailer below), will be back as Neytiri in the next Avatar film, which arrives on 17 December 2021 (hopefully).
