The Oscar-winning actress was at Comic Con promoting her final instalment of the blockbuster franchise, The Hunger Games and X-Men when talks emerged that Jen is attached to star in The Rosie Project, a romantic dramedy being developed by Columbia Pictures, a division of Sony.
The Australian and international best-selling book penned in 2013 by Graeme Simsion tells the story of awkward academic Don Tillman who tries to apply scientific principles to his search for a mate. His carefully rational approach is tested by the appearance in his life of the chaotic Rosie.
It was Graeme’s desire for his novel to be adapted to film, with the original written as a film script during his studies at RMIT.
The Aussie author has hinted that the film make not remain an ‘Australian’ story after Mark Colvin tweeted, “@GraemeSimsion Can you tell us whether it will still be set in Melbourne?”
Graeme responded, “@Colvinius I think as soon as Sony acquired it that became unlikely. I’m ok with it – the story does not rely much on location.”
But in case it does stay true to its Aussie roots, we’re sure Jen will nail the accent and mannerisms with the help of her friends Liam Hemsworth and X-Men co-star Hugh Jackman.
While on the Graham Norton show, Hugh admitted that while he acted in the sci-fi flick Chappie he adored the fact he could use his Aussie accent but revealed he had trouble thinking of Aussie slang!
“I had to practice it because it was way stronger than my natural accent,” Hugh laughed.
Adding, “The writer/director [Neill Blomkamp] used a lot of phrases, and I had to end up Googling the slang. He was coming up with some really cool sayings. … I was trying to think of more, so I ended up Googling some of them.”
While Jen’s representatives are yet to comment on the exciting speculation, we think she’d be perfect for the role – after all she is an Oscar-winner that can do it all!
