After fevered speculation the cult classic would be revived, Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn confirmed the exciting news on Tuesday.

“Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history, and we can’t wait to bring him back to the screen in 2019,” he explained.

The unnamed film will be the fifth installation in a long line of hugely popular Indiana Jones movies, which date all the way back to the 1981 hit Raiders of the Lost Ark, which was followed up by Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom in 1984, then Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade in 1989 and most recently 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull.

The films have grossed around $2 billion in total.

Dream team: Sean Connery played Indiana’s father in 1989’s The Last Crusade.

Late last year, 73-year-old Harrison told Entertainment Weekly he’d be on board for a fifth film.

“I’d love to do another Indiana Jones. A character that has a history and a potential, kind of a rollicking good movie ride for the audience, Steven Spielberg as a director – what’s not to like?” He said.

In the past, director Steven Spielberg has been adamant that if the film was to return, he would only do it with Harrison Ford on board.

“[We’re] not doing the [James] Bond thing where we’re going to call somebody else Indiana Jones,” Steven explained.

In a 1982 interview (which you can watch in the player above), a young Harrison explains he wasn’t the first choice to play the charming and smart Indiana. In fact, Tom Selleck was!

But as fate would have it, Harrison landed the now iconic role. Other stars who have acted in the franchise include Sean Connery, who played Indiana’s father Professor Henry Jones, and the late River Phoenix, who played a young Indiana in The Last Crusade.

Last year Harrison reprised another beloved role, playing Han Solo in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
