Slash Film brings word of the new movie in the works, one that would somehow both continue the story of the original (yes, two sequels already exist, one for cinemas and one straight-to-video) and reboot the concept at the same time.

Gad is familiar with comedic roles having played LeFou in the 2017 live-action remake of The Beauty and the Beast.

Joe Johnston’s 1989 original saw Rick Moranis as Wayne Szalinski, a scientist father who accidentally shrinks his teenage son and daughter (alongside some other kids) to just a quarter of an inch in size.

They must then venture through their backyard to return home while fending off insects and other massive-sized obstacles.

The new film, currently called Shrunk, would find Gad playing Szalinski’s grown son Nick, with the story taking place in the same universe as the original and tracking a story of Nick accidentally shrinking his own children (hence the reboot aspect).

Disney is looking for a filmmaker to work on the movie, with intentions to put it into cinema rather than directly on to the company’s new Disney+ streaming service.
