Star of the Wonder Woman franchise, Gal Gadot won’t sign on to a sequel unless producer Brett Ratner is no longer involved.
Brett Ratner is a prolific director/producer in Hollywood, known for his work on movies like Rush Hour series, Jennifer Aniston’s Horrible Bosses and of course, as a producer on 2017 Blockbuster, Wonder Woman.
The 48-year old is good friends with Jame Packer, and together they created RatPac Entertainment – a film production company which helped to produce the first Wonder Woman.
A total of six women have spoken up about their traumatising experiences with Ratner.
A Hollywood source told Page Six that Gal Gadot warned Warner Bros that she is taking a strong stance on sexual harassment in Hollywood, and will not be part of a film where a man accused of sexual misconduct could benefit financially or otherwise.
There’s no doubt that Gal Gadot, former combat instructor, beauty queen and mother, is serious- just last month she boycotted a dinner honouring Ratner.
The 32-year-old recently spoke Rolling Stone about being labelled a feminist.
“I find the question surprising, because I think, ‘Yes, of course. Every woman, every man, everyone should be a feminist. Because whoever is not a feminist is a sexist.'”
She has also described the Wonder Woman franchise as “propaganda for the new type of woman who should rule the world.”
Gadot and Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins worked hard to create the kind of female warrior who was strong because of her femininity, not despite it.
Another case of art imitating life, Gal is unquestionably a real-life superhero.
Her warning is a serious one hitting Warner Bros where it hurts, their wallets.
Could re-casting be an option?
We certainly hope not; we couldn’t imagine anyone embodying everything Wonder Woman stands for quiet so perfectly.
