25 years after we first met Hugh Grant’s Charles and his wild friends, fans will be treated to a Four Weddings and a Funeral sequel.
The Red Nose Day short sequel has been written by original screenwriter Richard Curtis, who previously did a red nose day short for one of his OTHER beloved films, Love Actually.
The sequel, titled One Red Nose Day and a Wedding, is part of Comic Relief USA’s annual campaign to end child poverty. It will air as part of the NBC network’s Red Nose Day Special later this year.
One Red Nose Day and a Wedding will reunite original cast members including Hugh, Andie MacDowell (Carrie), Kristin Scott Thomas (Fiona), John Hannah (Matthew), Rowan Atkinson (Father Gerald), James Fleet (Tom), David Haig (Bernard), Sophie Thompson (Lydia), David Bower (David), Robin McCaffrey (Serena), Anna Chancellor (Henrietta), Rupert Vansittart (George), Simon Kunz (John), Sara Crowe (Laura) and Timothy Walker (Angus).
It’s also been revealed that the original cast will be joined by mysterious special guests! One of those guests has already been shown to be Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again and Downton Abbey star Lily James.
The actress was spotted on set, wearing a wedding dress, and walking down the aisle with Hugh. Perhaps she plays his daughter in the new sequel?
In the first-look trailer, which you can watch in the player at the top of the article, the actors introduce their characters back to viewers, after 25 years.
“We request the pleasure of your company at the wedding of the year,” Hugh, as Charles, says to the camera. “And please, try not to be late.”
The short will air during The Red Nose Day Special on May 23rd in the US on NBC.
A date is yet to be revealed for international audiences, though it is possible the sequel will be uploaded to YouTube after a few months, much like the Love Actually sequel was.
