In a recent chat with People magazine to promote his new film Mother’s Day, director Garry Marshall let slip a little yet very exciting secret that plans for a third instalment of the much-loved Princess Diaries series is in the works!
And yes! Anne Hathaway will be there with ball gowns on to play the loveably-dorky, Mia Thermopolis.
“I was with Anne Hathaway a couple weeks ago, it looks like we want to do Princess Diaries 3 in Manhattan…” he alluded.
“Anne Hathaway is very pregnant, so we have to wait until she has the baby and then I think we’re going to do it.”
In the first and second films, Anne starred as an unpopular high schooler turned Princess alongside the iconic Julie Andrews, who played her long lost grandmother and Queen of Genovia. But will Julie Andrews be gracing our screens as the fictional royal once more? No word on that yet.
However, Garry did admit that we might indeed see another glorious performance from the ever-so-handsome Chris Pine, who played Mia’s love interest in the second film.
“Maybe,” he quipped. “He’s quite big now, you know.”
The first Princess Diaries film saw Anne’s first big screen debut.
Since the release in 2001, she has since gone on to act alongside Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada, Christian Bale in The Dark Knight Rises, and Hugh Jackman in Les Mierables, where she won an Oscar for her incredibly moving performance as Fantine.
The brunette beauty is currently expecting her first child with husband Adam Schulman.
After her expected May birth, it is more than likely the 33-year-old will want some time off to spend with her little bundle of joy before stepping back in front of the camera.
Or into her tiara…
