Break out the Bolly sweetie darling because Eddie and Patsy could be coming to a cinema near you as early as this year!
Jennifer Saunders, the writer, creator and star of the cult TV hit, has confirmed that she’s completed the first draft of her script for the Absolutely Fabulous movie – to be titled Edina and Patsy, after the celebrated main characters from the cult British TV comedy.
The hard-partying, swearing, chain-smoking, fashion victims of the small screen, played by Jennifer, 56, and Joanna Lumley, 68, are set to transition to the big screen as progress has finally begun on the long awaited film-adaptation of the highly popular show.
“I’m feeling euphoric,” Jennifer told the UK’s Mirror as she confirmed that she’d finally overcome her infamous procrastination issues to complete the screenplay – 20 years after she first began work on it.
Jennifer continued: “My proper New Year’s resolution is to do the film, otherwise it’ll be a pointless year of procrastination.”
Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley star as the boozing fashionistas Eddie and Patsy
As to the casting? Jennifer joked she would like to see an orangutan playing her part with Angelina Jolie playing the part of Eddie’s alcoholic sidekick Patsy.
“That would be funny, Angelina Jolie and an orangutan,” she said.
Jennifer’s screenplay success follows her foray into musicals when she adapted the music of the Spice Girls into the stage musical Viva Forever! in London.
While a release date is yet to be confirmed, it’s hoped that now that progress is underway, Eddie and Patsy could be boozing their way onto the big screen as soon as this year!
