Harry Butterfield has proved himself the seafood master on this season on MasterChef Australia. So it comes as no surprise that when the 29-year-old popped the question to girlfriend Lily Woodhouse in 2022, he did it right by the ocean in Tasmania.

“I planned a little picnic,” the Brisbane commercial property specialist tells TV WEEK of his proposal. “We had some fresh oysters and champagne. It was spectacular.”

Over the next year, Harry and his fiancée locked in a date and began wedding planning.

But when Harry was accepted as a contestant on MasterChef Australia, it soon became clear that their special day fell right when the show was filming.

“I actually got married during the competition,” Harry reveals. “It was wild!”

To pull it off successfully, Harry says he “flew to the wedding on the Friday, got married on the Saturday, then came back to the MasterChef kitchen on the Sunday”.

And although he had to miss out on the exciting lead-up to his own wedding day, he has no regrets.

“Going [onto MasterChef] is the best decision I’ve ever made – apart from proposing to my wife!” Harry, who aspires to open a seafood bar called Fins n’ Tins, says.

“It’s one of those opportunities that comes only once in a lifetime. It was obviously hard leaving [Lily], but she knows this is my opportunity to do something I love for the rest of my life.”
