She is best recognised for her incredible ability to belt out beautiful harmonies, but Jessica Mauboy is one of many talents and she reminds fans of this in her new movie, Windcatcher.
Jessica leads the cast, returning to the screen for the first time since the award-winning movie, The Sapphires, which aired more than a decade ago in 2012. The film followed four talented Australian Aboriginal girls as they entertained troops in Vietnam.
The Stan Original film, Windcatcher is set in the small country town of Herberston and follows the heartwarming story of three school kids trying to nab the school sports day title from a group of grade five bullies.
Leading the family story is runner Percy Boy, who forms an unlikely friendship with newcomer Keithy Cobb and spirited Daisy Hawkins.
In order to win the running race, the troublesome school kids are convinced Percy needs new shoes – all they need is to come up with the money…
In the trailer we see Percy training for the big race, the three kids stealing lemons, and just all-around family shenanigans.
Written by Boyd Quakawoot and directed by Tanith Glynn-Maloney, Windcatcher features an incredible Australian cast including Pia Miranda, Max Turner, Coco Greenstone, Kelton Pell, Ngali Shaw, Jessica McNamee and Lisa Maza.
Windcatcher see’s Stan join forces with the Australian Children’s Television Foundation (ACTF) in an effort to produce more family-fun and chaotic films.
“Stan’s collaboration with the Australian Children’s Television Foundation solidifies our position as a streaming destination for young audiences and families,” Stan’s Chief Content Officer, Cailah Scobie said.
“We are thrilled to be embarking on our first project with ACTF and look forward to working with the exceptional creative team behind Windcatcher. This heartwarming feature film will captivate the entire family and serve as an exciting addition to our Stan Originals collection.”
Windcatcher releases on Stan on March 28, 2024.
