How does Rhaenyra Targaryen’s die?
In the third season, Joffrey Baratheon ventures to the Great Sept of Baelor with his fiancée Margeary Tyrell. In doing so, he completely spoiled the ending to how Rhaenyra Targaryen dies.
According to cosmically unlikable character, Rhaenyra’s half-brother Aegon II has her killed and eaten by his dragon. Her character ending remains the same in the George R.R. Martin novel, Fire & Blood.
What happens in Fire & Blood?
Fire & Blood is a complete history of the Targaryen family and it, as expected, would hold a lot of spoilers for the House of The Dragon plot.
While some plot points may get lost in the book-to-screen adaptation, the ending to this novel may remain the same.
After Aegon is crowned Aegon II, and Rhaenyra isn’t informed of her father’s passing. A civil war begins as Rhaenyra fights for her crown. Thousands die, and left a irreversible mark on the Targaryen line.
To end the feuding, Princess Rhaenyra and Prince Daemon’s son Aegon III marries Alicent’s granddaughter, Jaehaera.
The Dance of the Dragons
While no plot points were exposed, Shireen Baratheon provided fans a glimpse into the mass death and destruction born from the Targaryen civil war.
Shireen, daughter to Stannis Baratheon, was reading a history book titled Dance of the Dragons in season five.
“It’s the story of the fight between Rhaenyra Targaryen and her half-brother Aegon for control of the Seven Kingdoms,” she explained to her father. “Both of them thought they belonged on the Iron Throne. When people started declaring for one or the other, their fight divided the kingdoms in two.”
“Brothers fought brothers. Dragons fought dragons. By the time it was over, thousands were dead. And it was a disaster for the Targaryen’s as well. They never truly recovered.”
