The ladies of Farmer Wants A Wife are lifting the lid on what goes on off-camera. “There is quite a lot of work,” shares one of Farmer Bert’s ladies, Karli.
“Outfit approvals with wardrobe, hair, makeup and plenty of retakes, including wide angles and repeats of particular snippets for different scenes!”
There are also plenty of chances to chill out, though.
“We aren’t really allowed to do any jobs around the farm due to health and safety regulations, so when there is downtime on the farm, Bert is busy working, so I often go for a run, do some cooking, cleaning or just relax by the pool,” the 32-year-old tells Woman’s Day.
STAR STATUS
Farmer Joe’s date Calya, 27, says the girls get the five-star treatment! “It kind of feels like you’re a mini celebrity in a small town,” she laughs. “Food taken care of, [you’re] chauffeured around.
“Joe goes to work and always comes back with coffees for us. He knows my order – oat milk please! – some sweet treats, teaches us some cool new things on the farm that we may never do, like how
to use a whip!”
But they put in the hard yards too!
“Some days we film until 3am,” says Anna, who reveals the experience is “just like one big sleepover with your besties and their boyfriend. It feels like being back at boarding school, but your boyfriend is allowed to stay as well!”
Playing card games, sunbaking, gardening and cooking are part of the daily routine. “When we found out that Dustin loved banana cake, it became a staple in the house,” says Anna, 28.
“We shared with the crew too, so they started leaving bananas behind that were about to go bad as a hint we needed to make some more!
ONE BIG PARTY
“We honestly are one big group that hangs out together all the time,” she adds of the family vibe. “It was nice to have a beautiful group of people to spend your time with and end emotionally draining days with big dance parties!”
“We all definitely share a few wines when not filming,” agrees Calya. “You try being on a show while living with strangers who want to date a man you want to date!”
“There’s always some hilarious story or awkward moment we’ve had to debrief at the end of the day,” chimes in Farmer Bert hopeful Brooke, 27.
But Calya admits she sometimes regrets wine time the next day.
“Farmer Joe LOVES to play his music sooo LOUD in the mornings,” she laughs. “I am not a morning person.”
