Not quite a year following Eliza and Liberty’s smashing success on The Block 2023, the girls have returned to television in Channel Nine’s reality show, Do You Want To Live Forever? featuring Tracy Grimshaw.
The four-part medical series will discover the key to a longer, healthier life. But first these participants must put their habits and lifestyle to the test as they understand the “limits of human longevity.”
Four Australian pairings have willingly signed up to be the test dummies, including Block sisters Eliza and Liberty, addition a couple with a young gamily, a father-and-son duo and an older couple.
Hosted by Tracey and guided by Dr Nick Coatsworth, the pair will travel to Los Angeles, Mexico and Okinawa, Japan to discover tips and tricks to improve lifespans – whether it cost billions of dollars or won’t break the bank.
Since starring on the hit renovation series, the sisters have launched their own podcast Before You Die, however, Do You Want To Live Forever? is their first appearance on-screen since The Block and came onto the series with very different approaches to health.
“It was like the universe sent the opportunity to me specifically,” Eliza, 38, told TV WEEK. “Lib is into health and fitness, but I was into bad habits: hardly getting any sleep, I don’t drink water, I drink so much caffeine, my cholesterol was high. I essentially wasn’t really moving. I was like, ‘I need to do this to turn my life around.’”
Eliza wasn’t the only one who got a rude shock, as Liberty admitted: “I went into it like, ‘I’m so fit and healthy. I’m great,’. But then it really surprised me how poor my cognitive function was, and how many things I could improve.”
We’ll have to wait and see whether Do You Want To Live Forever? will be life-extending for the sisters – but the four-part series was definitely life-changing.
“Looking back, I was a high-functioning sloth,” Eliza admitted with a laugh.
“I thought I didn’t have any more to learn,” Liberty added. “But we certainly learned a lot, and implemented a lot.”
But they aren’t the only ones making a grand return. The new Channel Nine series marks Tracy Grimshaw’s return to television since departing new program, A Current Affair.
For 17 years, Tracy sat in the news chair at A Current Affair but in September 2022 she announced she would be leaving in November. Taking up the gig was former Today host, Allison Langdon, who continues to impress viewers.
“I’ve decided to finish up with A Current Affair this year, it’s been a big decision, huge actually … I want you to know it’s been my decision alone and I’m not being shoved out the door by the boys’ club because I’m too old,” Tracy said of her departure at the time.
“I’m not too old, I’m just a bit tired. For the record both the boys and girls have asked me to stay.”
However, her gracious return to TV comes as no surprise given a Nine spokesperson revealed a secret “new project” was on its way.
Do You Want To Live Forever? airs on Channel Nine and 9Now on Monday, 7:30pm.
