Fans were given a much needed taste of the highly awaited sequel, after we were teased with the “trailer for the trailer” yesterday.
But now the full trailer has landed and it is everything we hoped for and more.
The trailer shows a more adult Bridget. A decade older than when we last time we saw her, back in 2004’s Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, the boozy Brit is loving her job as producer, still knows how to “drink like a fish”, was apparently jilted at the alter and of course she is still facing her constant dilemma of those pesky love triangles (cue in Grey’s Anatomy’s Patrick Dempsey and Colin Firth), but this time she’s pregnant.
The new flick will see the triumphant return of everyone’s favourite heroine, Bridget Jones, portrayed by 46-year-old Renee Zellweger.
Also reprising their role is Colin Firth, who is back as Bridget’s long-term love Mark Darcy, but alas he is to be rivaled by newcomer Mark Qwant, played by McDreamy himself, Patrick Dempsey.
The third installment of the Bridget franchise will focus on the British trainwreck preparing for her next big adventure, motherhood.
The final reveal is apparently a big secret – three different endings have been shot, to prevent even the cast of the film from knowing the truth.
“It’s kind of brilliant,” Renee said earlier this year.
“None of the cast knows who fathered Bridget’s baby or who she’ll choose as her beau. The plan is to keep us all in the dark, right up to the premiere.”
It’s been more than 14 years since the first film was released; and fans are already very excited.
“The new Bridget Jones film is 100% the most exciting thing to happen this year. Cannot wait,” one excited fan tweeted.
Director Sharon Maguire, who also directed the first movie, will be returning behind the lens for the rom-com.
“I’m so happy,” Renee said about Sharon’s return. “There’s nothing better in the whole world than pulling off a silly stunt and hearing her laugh from behind the camera.”
Adding, “I always feel that whenever I see her, that the character of Bridget is alive, existing somewhere right between the two of us.”
Bridget Jones’s Baby is expected to hit cinemas this September.
