Phew! The Sunrise team made it to New York for a live broadcast with minutes to spare

Their arrival in the Big Apple wasn't quite as smooth as Sam Armytage and David Koch had hoped...

The veteran presenters were all smiles despite almost missing the New York leg of their crazy “five countries in five days” broadcast.

In an Aussie first, the Channel Seven breakfast show is attempting to telecast five live shows from five different countries on five consecutive days.

“It’s going to be one of our most star-studded weeks in Sunrise history. Five countries, five days and the countries are not even close together,” Kochie revealed before his big adventure.

Ed Sheeran, Phil Collins, Adam Lambert , Hugh Jackman and Seal are included on their high-profile roster of guests.

The ambitious feat is only three days in and they’ve already faced a whirlwind of hurdles.

After completing Dubai on Monday, the Sunrise team was all the way across the globe in London on Tuesday, when the sudden change in Prime Minster broke back home in Canberra.

The guys squeeze in some camel time while in Dubai.

But it was Wednesday’s show in New York that had Kochie, Sam, Natalie Barr and Mark Beretta all on their toes. Due to a technical problem with their flight, a slight delay turned into a three-hour wait, which put a major dent into their journey to the Big Apple.

Natalie and Sam were forced to have camera-ready hair and makeup done in an exit row of the plane, naturally sharing the tense moment on Instagram.

Luckily for the morning television show, the stars aligned and they just made it to Rockefeller Centre.

Yikes! The presenters and their producer Michael Pell look less than sunny as they wait through the delay.

“It’s a city that never sleeps and we haven’t had much either — about 45 minutes,” A relieved Sam tweets as Sunrise went live at 6am.

Mark happily let his followers know, “We made it!!!! @sunriseon7 on air now from New York!”

The mastermind behind the slightly insane attempt to go to five countries is Sunrise executive producer, Michael Pell.

“We do have back-up flights if any of the flights get cancelled, but there is a huge risk and we’ll have people waiting back in the studio every day, which we normally do,” he told APP.

“Kylie and Larry are there and we have an early morning newsreader as well, but I expect us to be live every day from somewhere.”

Tomorrow they’ll be going across the American border to Canada’s Niagara Falls before they close out their trip in Cancun, Mexico.

Dubai, London and New York done and dusted! Just two days left of the whirlwind tour.
