Aussie model and DJ Ruby Rose is making a splash in the States as she’s set to join the cast of smash-hit Netflix TV show Orange is the New Black.
The tattooed Aussie star revealed the news via her Facebook page, where she posted a link to a new fashion shoot and interview she is featured in for US Elle magazine. She wrote: “read about my new role on a small unheard of series called Orange Is The New Black.. ( insert sarcasm ).”
While Orange is the New Black might still be relatively unknown in Australia, airing not on free-to-air but only on Foxtel, it has nonetheless gained a cult following with Aussie fans and has been a hugely popular phenomenon in the United States.
With the expected arrival of video-on-demand service Netflix in Australia early this year too, there’s little doubt that the show will quickly gain a huge following down under too.

Set in a women’s prison Litchfield, the show follows the lives of the inmates as they cope with life in incarceration. Ruby already dropped some serious hints that she may be connected with the show back in September when she shared a photo of herself partying with the cast at cast-member Danielle Brooks’ birthday.
The series is also highly praised for its portrayal of lesbian relationships, which don’t often get featured on primetime TV. With Ruby known as a GLBT icon in Australia (who announced her engagement to fashion designer Phoebe Dahl in March last year) she’ll no doubt be a perfect fit alongside the rest of the cast.

The Elle article reads: “Ruby Rose, 28, oozes raw sex appeal even in an orange jumpsuit, as the newest inmate — and lust object of both Piper and Alex — at Litchfield Penitentiary on this summer’s third season of Orange Is the New Black.”
Netflix have confirmed via BuzzFeed that Ruby will portray Stella Carlin. They say that Stella is “an inmate at Litchfield Federal Correctional Institution whose sarcastic sense of humor and captivating looks quickly draw the attention of some of Litchfield’s inmates.”
Ruby won’t be the only Aussie either – the cast already includes one fellow Aussie – Yael Stone who is known for her role as Lorna Morello.
The third season of the show is expected to be released in either June or July this year, by which time Netflix will have launched down under so Aussie fans who subscribe should be able to binge-watch the whole lot in one go if they so desire!
