It's been ruffling feathers around the nation but Channel Nine's controversial new show Married At First Sight has already been renewed for season two after just one episode.

Channel Nine confirmed the news on Tuesday, crediting the show’s incredible ratings. “We are all so immensely proud of this program and are pleased that it has resonated so strongly with Australian viewers,” Andrew Backwell, Director of Programming and Production with the Nine Network explained.

The six-part series follows four pairs who meet for the first time at the altar as they tie the knot and despite the outrage ahead of its screening, it seemed to be love at first watch for Aussie audiences with the premiere episode reeling in a whopping 1.13 million viewers.

The sweet and bubbly Roni, 32, said “I do” to 31-year-old event manager Michael, while soft-spoken farmer Lachlan, 36, tied the knot to the very feisty and opinionated 37-year-old, Clare.

Roni is a sweetheart who loves to giggle but the pretty blonde has had her fair share of heartbreak after a tough divorce and is now looking for love.

The panel of three experts paired Roni and Michael up because they’re both from “loud outspoken families with lots of friends.”

Clare, on the other hand, is very frank about what she wants and told viewers: “I’m 37 and I want to have kids, so something needs to happen.”

While farmer Lachlan is quiet but also dreams of a family. For the experts, the fact they both want kids is enough of a reason to push these two very opposite people down the aisle.

The public reacts to the new show.

The controversial series has certainly got people talking. Ironically Tim Robards, a man who found his happily ever after on reality TV, found the new show laughable.

The former Bachelor took to twitter with his views of the show: “Man I thought I had some guts but these guys have balls… Or desperation… Not sure but wish them luck! #MarriedAtFirstSight.”

He was quick to continue the conversation, responding to former Big Brother contestant, Tully Smyth’s tweet: “This is ridiculous! #MarriedAtFirstSight.”

“This is ridiculous,” the man who once dated 25 women on the TV quipped.

Tracy Grimshaw, who is recovering from a horse riding accident also found the show amusing.

“A panel of experts have matched Lachlan and Clare? Really,” the veteran journalist tweeted.

No matter what you think of the new hit series, it’s bound to get everyone talking!
