After relentless speculation about the Gilmore Girls reboot, Melissa McCarthy couldn’t be happier when she was finally able to reveal she was back on board.
And now, speaking to US Weekly at the TIME 100 Gala in New York on Tuesday, the 45-year-old spilled on her “sentimental” feelings of returning to the set that made her famous.
“I went back and visited about two weeks ago and saw the sets again and everybody on them and it just felt — oh, my God, I get so sentimental,” the actress dished.
“It felt like the greatest idea in the world. It was just lovely. It was just lovely.”
“I think [fans] are going to be really happy. I think they’re going to be thrilled,” she added to E! News.
In news that had fans jumping for joy, Melissa – who played Lorelai’s clumsy pal Sookie St. James – officially confirmed on The Ellen Show earlier this month that she will indeed be returning to reprise her role, despite previous rumours that she was too “busy.”
“There has been something that I have been asked about so, so many times and it hasn’t worked out. They’re making four new movies of the Gilmore Girls which is a show which was near and dear to my heart for four years, and we could not get those schedules to work.”
“Literally about an hour and half ago we figured out that I’m gonna go back and do it and I am so excited,” she told Ellen excitedly before adding: “And they are gonna be amazing.”

The much-loved original series ran for seven years from 2000 to its final episode in 2007.
The Netflix reboot will include four 90-minute episodes, telling the stories of the beloved characters from then, to now.
And from official photos released to Entertainment Weekly earlier this month, it looks as if a LOT has changed since the shows end.
Although minimal details of the reboot’s plot can be made out from the images, it appears as if Rory’s once-aspired career of becoming a journalist took a turn, as she stands in front of a classroom.
Eagle-eyed fans also spotted Luke Danes and Lorelai hand-in-hand, suggesting that the on-again off-again might well be ‘on again’.
Other cast favourites are set to appear alongside two brunette stars, including Paris Geller (Liza Weil), Dean Forester (Jared Padalecki), Milo Ventimiglia (Jess Mariano) Christopher Hayden (David Sutcliffe) and Emily Gilmore (Kelly Bishop), who’s now a widower.
