Mandy McElhinney to play Gina Rinehart

Mandy McElhinney aka ‘Rhonda’ has been cast as Gina Rinehart in the telemovie about her life.

Channel Nine have announced Mandy as the lead in the new telemovie, titled: House of Hancock, that is scheduled to begin filming in two weeks.

Mandy is of course best known and loved for the AAMI insurance ads in which she played the love struck “Rhonda”, as well as her role on Nine’s Love Child but we also love her for her role as Woman’s Day’s own irrepressible  former editor Nene King in ABC’s Paper Giants: Magazine Wars.

Fairfax reports that the plot of the telemovie will centre around the bitter dispute between Gina and her late father, mining tycoon Lang Hancock following his marriage to his ex-maid, Rose.

It is presumed that Gina, 60, will be fuming at the thought of a movie about her life being made. The billionaire mining magnate may be the richest person in Australia and the richest woman in the world but she is notoriously publicity-shy and never discusses her private life and very rarely gives press interviews.

The premiere date of the telemovie has yet to be announced, but it is expected to be air on Nine later this year.
