Rowling has revealed that the death she most regrets penning was that of the wizard Florean Fortesque, the owner of Diagon Alley’s ice-cream shop who met his death in The Order of the Phoenix courtesy of He Who Shall Not Be Named’s rather nasty Death Eaters.
Rowling wrote of poor Florean on the website Pottermore.com, which is celebrating #pottermorechristmas with 12 days of new Harry Potter stories written by the beloved author in the lead-up to Christmas,
“I seem to have him kidnapped and killed for no good reason.”
“He is not the first wizard whom Voldemort murdered because he knew too much (or too little), but he is the only one I feel guilty about, because it was all my fault,” Rowling wrote.
Previous bonus content released on the Pottermore website has included a backgrounder on Severus Snape and a reunion of Harry Potter with his gang at the Quidditch World Cup Finals.
It’s been a busy year for JK Rowling, in addition to the Pottermore content, she is writing a spin-off film to Harry Potter called, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and the BBC have announced that they are going to adapt two of JK Rowlings detective novels (written under her pen name, Robert Gailbraith,) for the small screen, while the BBC and HBO are also going to create a miniseries based on Rowlings novel, The Casual Vacancy.
