While most of the contestants are thought to be genuinely battling in the property market, Woman’s Day has revealed another story…
With a free home renovation for all contestants and the winning team’s mortgage paid, it’s no wonder these contestants applied for House Rules.
But outside the reality show, which has kept Aussie viewers enthralled for weeks, Woman’s Day can exclusively reveal most of the “average Aussie couples” are actually experienced property investors with hours of renovation experience.
In fact, most of the teams have interests in multiple property portfolios with a combined value of $6 million!
Flick through this gallery to see their property portfolios – and read the full and exclusive story in this week’s Woman’s Day, on sale June 23, 2014.
With a free home renovation and having their mortgage paid, it’s no wonder these contestants applied for House Rules.
After we broke the news of their shock split last week, Woman’s Day can reveal more secrets of Candy and Ryan. Neighbours of the pair have confirmed the couple did not live in their TV house before filming began – and they spotted a Salvation Army truck dropping off furniture just before the cameras moved in.
While Candy says Ryan didn’t want to start a family until renovations were complete, it’s clear he was calling the shots – his name was on the property. He also owns another property in the same suburb.
Maddi and Lloyd own two homes, tallying an estimated $940K. The Queensland couple both have renovation backgrounds and purchased their House Rules home last year, making it the second residence in their property portfolio.
The laid-back couple own a house in Townsville worth about $420,000.
Our investigations reveal “battlers” Mel and Bomber own three places between them. The pair, who said they started house hunting on their first date, each already own real estate.
Bomber says he was renting when they met but he owns a home in Adelaide estimated to be worth $400,000. Mel also has a place in Adelaide, where the median sale price in her area sits at around $395,000.
Although Grant and Brooke were the first to be booted off the show, they are the only contestants who are truly doing it tough, struggling to raise their seven children in the humble home they’ve lived in for two years.
Lisa and Adam have approximately $1.2 million worth of real estate. This Victorian couple purchased their three-bedroom home a year before appearing on House Rules. But our investigations reveal the pair also own a $520,000 four-bedroom property outside Melbourne’s CBD.
Their neighbours at their House Rules home, which is meant to be their primary residence, barely even know them. “I’ve hardly seen them there,” one said. “We exchange pleasantries when we see each other, but that’s rare,” says another.
Carole and Russ have a property portfolio worth about $2.3 million. The pair, who say a paid-off mortgage is what they desperately need, already own a palatial waterfront property with two living areas, a spa bath and private jetty!
