It’s getting to the pointy end of The Bachelorette and sadly for Matt D, Rhys, Todd and Sam their journey has come to an end.
The episode kicked off with an intense sudden death date with Rhys and Sam trying to woo Georgia at Sydney’s Luna Park.
Rhys was the first one on the chopping block with the bespectacled bloke admitting to Georgia he wasn’t sure if he was ready to find The One. Sam never made it back to the mansion, either, after he confessed to Georgia he had plans to move to America to pursue his modelling career, instead of falling in love.
At the masquerade cocktail party, Matty J won over Miss Love with his charming pop quiz about himself. But intruder Todd and Matt D failed to make their mark and were sent packing. Woman’s Day caught up with the booted boys to talk about their time on the show…

SAM, 27, NSW
Will you be catching up with Rhys any time soon?
Of course! Rhys and I are really good mates. When he comes to Sydney, I’ll definitely be catching up with him. We speak every Wednesday and Thursday after the show and vent our opinions, what we like, what we don’t like. We’re good mates!
Can we expect a spin-off show from you two? Maybe it could be called The Best of Frenemies?
I don’t think that’s going to be happening…
How’s the big move to America coming along to pursue your showbiz career?
Just waiting on the visa so hopefully sooner rather than later so maybe early January.
What’s your dream job to land over there?
I’m not really sure… No idea!
Have you found love since leaving the show?
I haven’t found love yet… I haven’t like yet either, still looking.
Have you started dating again?
No, not yet.
Would you consider Bachelor, 2017?
Yes, of course! Sounds like fun. Guys, if you’re going to vote for Bachelor, vote for me! I’m the new one, 2017.
What are your thoughts on Georgia? Is she the kind of girl you’d date in the real world?
She is definitely the kind of girl I would date. She’s very good looking and so smart and well spoken. She’s definitely upset that I’m not there anymore!
RHYS, 29, QUEENSLAND
How do you feel about Georgia?
She’s lovely and has a great sense of humour but I really don’t know her very well. I wish her the best and knowing who is left in the house, the best really is there up for grabs.
Were you upset to leave the Bachelor Mansion when you did?
Not at all, I was there to see if Georgia was my kind of girl and when we realised we had some key differences, I knew it wasn’t to be and was happy to make my exit and get back to life.
Do you feel Georgia spent enough time getting to know you?
No it definitely takes more than a few five minute, high-pressure conversations to get to know me, however Georgia did the best she could in such a strange and unique situation. She no doubt had better connections with other guys on the show and I’m glad she spent her time pursuing those.
Why did you decide to go on The Bachelorette?
The opportunity arose when I was considering returning to the dating world and it was my chance to see if I was ready to “feel” again. I’ve taken some time to myself and not explored any kind of romantic relationship since my marriage and was beginning to miss having that someone to cuddle and wake up to every day.
What was the biggest highlight and lowlight of the experience?
I cannot emphasise enough how happy I am to have made some best mates for life! I have spent a lot of time with Tommy and Dale since exiting the show and couldn’t be happier, just those boys alone are reason enough to do the show.
I think it’s safe to say busting my arm would be the low point, it’s just been a long time healing and I really want to hit the gym hard and swim again.
Did you have to sacrifice many aspects of your personal life to try and find love on the show?
I did have to put my main software project on hold to do the show but I’m getting back into things again now. I also had to hold off on publishing my vlog but that really was a want, not a need.
Have you found love since the show ended for you?
Tricky question [laughs]. I guess you could say somebody has surfaced that’s had a piece of my heart for almost five years. When and if she is ready, I think she knows I’ll be here to give things a go.
Who do you think win will Georgia’s heart?
Well Matty J, Lee and Cam all won my heart and I’m not easily impressed. So I wouldn’t be surprised if they have the same effect on her.
With such loud personalities in the mansion, did you feel pressure to perform?
Not at all, I enjoyed the physical competitions but I don’t consider us all dating the same girl a competition and never did. We’re all unique and she will fall for the right guy for her, only if there was another exactly like me in the house would I consider him a threat.
You mentioned to Georgia a few times about some of the guys who weren’t really there for the right reasons. Can you elaborate more on this?
The question was asked a few times before I was involved, however my view was that I wanted people to be completely open with her.
Right reasons or not, if you weren’t there to be open and honest, it could mislead Georgia and end up in disappointment or worse. I never wanted to see that for anyone so I gave in when pressured, not to hurt Sam but to help Georgia.

What do you think is the biggest misconception about you that people might get from watching the show?
Oh wow where do I start? Let’s just say people who know me were confused when watching the show. I was a lot of things in my time there ranging from genuine and caring to sarcastic and douchebag.
In real life, it’s a balance and usually all in jest for some good laughs, however the audience was only shown the douchebag model and unfortunately a stereotype was quickly born.
Have you always been fond of poetry and write it to woo ladies?
Haha no, there was a lot of spare time in the mansion and I put my pen and paper to good use. I have a big creative side and just decided to use poetry to overcome my nerves and better communicate with Georgia in the small time slots available.
What’s your all-time favourite line of poetry?
Roses are red, violets are blue, Benny is a legend even with a nervous poo!
Watching back the series, how do you feel about Sam’s comments towards you?
I actually almost cried… from laughter. I’m glad his banter was such high quality, I feel it may have been a boring show without it.
Now you’re out of the house, would you ever catch up for a beer with Sam and bury the hatchet?
Of course, next time I’m in Sydney we will catch up for sure, as friends. No hatchet burial needed.
Who was your best mate in the house?
Hate to be that guy but I can’t pick just one. I really appreciated most of they guys but I’m really close with the Brissy Wolfpack of Tommy, Dale and Aaron.
MATT D, 29, VIC
How do you feel about Georgia now?
I thought Georgia was lovely, very impressive young lady. She was always lovely to me! I look forward to catching up with her and whoever she ends up with for a drink as mates.
Were you upset to leave the Bachelor Mansion?
It was a very weird feeling going from such a high to sitting in a hotel room back in Sydney alone, it was disappointing to leave the lads and the house but I was excited to catch up with my family and
mates back home.
Do you feel Georgia spent enough time getting to know you?
No, I unfortunately I didn’t have a single date it would have been nice to have had that time with Georgia away from the other lads, it was not to be that’s OK I always respected her decisions regarding which lads she choose to take on the single dates. I try not to let things I can’t control take control of my actions.
Why did you decide to go on the series?
I was approached at the start of the year regarding Bachelor, I’m not sure why or how and then one thing lead to another, I was accepted and here we are. It was a once in a life time opportunity to experience something pretty crazy with the end result potentially falling for what was to be a gorgeous girl. I couldn’t find too many reason NOT to give it a crack!
What were the best and worst things to come out of the whole experience?
I think night one meeting Georgia and arriving at the house was something I’ll never forget and becoming good mates with several of the lads I think we will be mates for a long time to come.
Lowlight would be of course leaving the house. I wasn’t ready to go and still had unfinished business.
0Have you found love since the show ended for you?
No, I haven’t found love since my departure. I have being laying low, will be nice now not worrying about being spotted with a girl.
Who do you think win will Georgia’s heart?
Very good question! I’m not too sure to be honest. Georgia doesn’t give away too much. Perhaps Lee or Courtney all the remaining lads definitely have their strong points to take out the lovely Georgia.
With such loud personalities in the Mansion, did you feel pressure to compete with the boys?
No I didn’t worry about the external pressures of the other lads much. But there was one instance when the intruders arrived, I had a couple drinks as we did each cocktail party and felt not having a single date a little pressure…
So I had a gift I was going to give her if I received a single date, which I ended up giving to her following the intruders arrival at the cocktail party, unfortunately they didn’t show it on the episode. It was an eternity rose I had brought into the house. I was waiting for the moment I felt that Georgia deserved it.
I wasn’t going to give just any girl a lovely gift like that straight up on night one. I wanted to get to know her a little to determine if she was worth it! Which I believed she was.
1Is there anything you wish you did differently with your time in the mansion?
No nothing different, I was myself 100% the whole time I think the boys and Georgia could confirm that!
TODD, 26, QLD
What are your impressions of Georgia?
She is such a sweetheart and I think we would get along easily but in the real world. But I feel for her! She has a tough decision on her hands choosing between some amazing guys.
Were you upset to leave the Bachelor Mansion after such a short time?
Absolutely. It was such a great time but some great friends and memories were made.
2Do you feel Georgia spent enough time getting to know you?
No, not that she can blamed at all. Her time with everyone is very limited and I think most dates are already planned. In the end, there was just not enough time and her decision was probably hard enough.
Why did you decide to go on the dating show?
I don’t think you could say no to such an amazing experience and opportunity. The possibility of finding love while holidaying in a mansion with a bunch of legendary dudes. You would be silly to say no.
What was the highlight and lowlight of the experience?
The whole experience was a highlight to be honest. If I was to pick a lowlight, it would be hearing about the other dates and the things I missed out on before I arrived.
Did you have to sacrifice many aspects of your personal life to try and find love on the show?
No. I was a point in my life where I had just packed up everything and moved to another state. Part of the reason I couldn’t say no.
3Have you found love since the show ended for you?
No. I haven’t even had time to find somewhere to live or someone to live with in this amazing city let alone start dating!
Who do you think Georgia will end up with?
I think Matty J is the ultimate man. Georgia would be a very lucky lady to land him as a partner. Same with Courtney. Although I think Georgia is looking for a real mature man and Leeroy may have that over those big kids!
Coming in as an intruder, did you feel a sense of hostility from the “original” Bachelors?
I think the first night there were a couple who were not so keen to see more competition. Clancy had just been on his single date and was on a pretty big high so he wasn’t too impressed. Although it didn’t take long for him to warm up.
