The exit will come as shock to fans, with the fan-favourite trading in the soapie for a role in Channel Seven’s brand new prime time series, The Secret Daughter.
The show stars Jessica Mauboy as Billie, a part-time country pub singer whose chance meeting with a wealthy city hotelier triggers a series of events that will change her life forever.
“I’m looking forward to bringing this colourful character and story to life,” Jess said about her new role.
Meanwhile, the 2014 TV Week Logie Award winner will portray Billie’s best friend, Layla.
“I’m really happy to be joining the cast and working alongside such talented people like Jessica Mauboy,” Bonnie said in a statement.
“It’s an exciting time for me and I’m thrilled to be working on another production for Seven.”
This will be the first time Bonnie and Jess will share the screen together and the duo couldn’t be more pleased.
“As soon as I saw one of her headshots come up during castings, I was like ‘hell yeah, I know her,” Jess told NewsCorp Australia.
“We can give each other a look across the room and then just burst out laughing, it’s that kind of relationship. Already, I’m glued to her, we are best friends and it’s amazing how that bond has aligned, how it fits with us in real life, on set and off it.”
Before adding, “That’s a massive step for her and I just love her work. I think she’s an incredible chick and just so much fun. To have her on board, to share her spirit and personality and experience is just everything for me.”
And the feeling is mutual for the soap star.
“It’s not like I’m really confident [as a singer] … I mean, here I am standing with the amazing Jess, but I’ve loved every minute of it so far,” Bonnie admitted.
The actress is expected to farewell her role as Summer Bay’s favourite single mum, Ricky Sharpe over the coming months.
Bonnie hinted towards her new gig when she shared a snap on Instagram thanking fans for her 2016 Best Actress Logie nomination.
“Thanks for nominating me for another Logie, friends. I adore Ricky and I’m glad others appreciate my portrayal of her. A massive thanks to the cast and delightful crew of H&A as well, for the last year. Especially the beautiful @lucyaddario for everything, as a producer and a mentor. Big love all round,” she captioned alongside a flashback snap of herself and the Home and Away producer from last year’s Logies.
Adding, “Ps exciting news coming later this week!”
No doubt the pretty blonde was talking about her new show.
