Aussie Oscar nods for Jackman, Watts and Weaver

Hugh Jackman has been nominated for his first Oscar, with fellow Aussies Naomi Watts and Jacki Weaver also receiving Academy Award nods.

Hugh has been nominated for his highly praised role in Les Miserables, Naomi received her nomination for The Impossible based on a real-life survival story from the 2004 tsunami in Thailand, while Jackie earned her second Best Supporting Actress nomination for Silver Linings Playbook.

Hugh has hosted the Oscars before, but has never been nominated for one.

“Having hosted the show, I have seen so many different sides of the Oscars, but to be an actual nominee is something I never would have dreamed possible,” he told AAP.

“I hadn’t planned to listen live to the announcements, but when I got into the car this morning to go to work, the driver had the nominations streaming as they were being broadcast.”
