So on May 2, when Princess Charlotte rung in her third birthday, we all were hoping to get a brand new royal portrait.

But alas the birthday gods weren’t that kind.

The moment you realise you’re not getting any new photos.

Kensington Palace, who rep Charlotte’s parents the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge instead reposted an old favourite.

They shared the iconic image snapped by Kate on Charlotte’s first day of pre-school in January at Willcocks Nursery School in London.

They did thank everyone for their kind messages, penning, “Wishing a happy third birthday to Princess Charlotte – thank you all for your lovely messages!”

But many had hoped for a little more.

It turns out there’s a very understandable explanation why Kate and Wills decided not to release a brand new image of their birthday girl.

Essentially, we’ve already seen quite a lot of Charlotte.

The toddler stepped out on April 23 to visit her new baby brother Prince Louis.

And we’re set to see her in a vital role at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal wedding on May 19, followed by Trooping the Colour in the weeks to come!

We can’t wait to see her again!

While we’re not privy to the personal lives of the Cambridges, we do know it is wonderfully exciting time for the British Royal Family.

Just one day after the Queen took the royal helicopter to visit her family’s newest member, her eldest Prince Charles followed suit.

The doting grandpa was joined by wife Camilla.

It’s understood this is Charles first introduction to little Louis.

Following the birth he shared, “We are both so pleased at the news. It is a great joy to have another grandchild, the only trouble is I don’t know how I am going to keep up with them!”

Prince Charles has joked he’s going to struggle to keep up with his three grandchildren – bless!
