Powerhouse vocalist and international superstar Celine Dion’s life was altered forever when she was diagnosed with stiff person syndrome in 2022.
Now, Celine is giving fans a “raw and honest” glimpse into her brave health journey in her upcoming documentary, I Am: Celine Dion.
The Canadian songstress first shot to stardom in the 1980s thanks to her unique voice and iconic songs, and she has remained in the spotlight ever since.
Appropriately referred to as the “Queen of Power Ballads”, Celine has released countless number one hits and garnered millions of devoted fans.
But when the 56-year-old was diagnosed with stiff person syndrome in 2022, her career, and life, came to a standstill.
Stiff person syndrome is a rare neurological disorder and according to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, symptoms can include stiff muscles and muscle spasms that may be triggered by noises, touch or even emotional distress.
As a result of her disorder, in May 2023 Celine was forced to postpone and then ultimately cancel her upcoming tour dates, which were scheduled for the remainder of 2023.
Now, Celine is showcasing the brutal reality of her illness as well as the “resilience of the human spirit” in a candid and honest way, via I Am: Celine Dion.
Directed by Academy Award nominee Irene Taylor, the documentary is set to inspire viewers and capture audiences around the globe.
I Am: Celine Dion is serving as a love letter to her fans, and captures moments from Celine’s never-before-seen private life.
As the official synopsis for the documentary reads, the upcoming film is “An emotional, energetic, and poetic love letter to music.”
“I Am: Celine Dion captures more than a year of filming as the legendary singer navigates her journey toward living an open and authentic life amidst illness.”
Celine Dion’s new documentary I Am: Celine Dion will be released on Prime Video on 25 June 2024 in Australia.
