House Rules contestant Andrew has slammed judge Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen’s taxidermy rule as “crazy”.
The WA twin says the idea of putting stuffed dead animals into an apartment for people receiving cancer treatment “seems a bit wrong”.
This week, the three teams are renovating apartments near a hospital in Sydney, each going by a different judge’s rules. SA duo Kate and Harry chose Laurence’s rules, but are already regretting it.
In particular, they’re struggling with Laurence’s direction to indulge his love of taxidermy.
Andrew, 27, says he would have struggled too.
“I would have considered not putting it in, just out of, almost, respect to the people using the unit,” he says. “It seems wrong to put taxidermy into a place like that.
“Saying that, you would probably sacrifice points by not putting it in. I’m not sure what I would have done. I have really no idea.”
Andrew thinks Kate and Harry made a mistake by choosing Laurence’s rules.
“You just knew they would be way out there,” he says.
However, he admits that judge Drew Heath’s rules – where he’s looking for an “easy, modern” feel – aren’t making things easy for himself and twin Jono either.
“I think Drew’s rules probably are the vaguest out of all of them,” he says. “It’s not really a style you can research. Nothing comes up when you search for it, so it’s tricky.”
