Out of uniform – and out of prison – here are the stars of Wentworth as you’ve never see them before.
For a bunch of inmates and prison guards, don’t they look glamorous?
The cast of the Foxtel drama jumped at the chance to dress up for TV WEEK’s photo shoot ahead of this week’s season six premiere.
What’s obvious is this show is more like a family than a group of actors. Nicole da Silva, who plays Franky Doyle, believes this has a lot to do with the nature of the show.
“The content we create every day on set requires so much of us as human beings,” Nicole, 36, explains. “So much [of us] is revealed in that.
“So when you step off set, there’s a degree of processing that happens with each other, as actors, that it naturally forms bonds. And these bonds we’ll hold dear for years to come.”
This year, Wentworth is in the running for two TV WEEK Logie Awards: Most Outstanding Drama Series and Most Popular Drama Program.
Stars Pamela Rabe and Kate Atkinson will duke it out for Most Outstanding Actress, while Celia Ireland is nominated for Most Outstanding Supporting Actress.
“I think the joy of this show is that it’s never quite what you expect,” Celia says.
No questions about it, this is a successful show. Interestingly, Nicole admits she initially wasn’t sure how Wentworth – a reimagined version of classic 1980s Aussie series Prisoner – would fare.
“I was completely blind as to what the show was going to be and mean [to audiences],” she says.
Clearly, with such a passionate fan base that extends overseas, the show means a lot, to a lot of people.
Wentworth Season Six premieres Tuesday June 19, 8:30pm, on Showcase on Foxtel.
