TV WEEK’s five talking points

From Twin Peaks to topless kayaking…
Rebecca Gibney in Wanted

Here are the five things that are making tongues wag in the TV WEEK office!

Is this the end of topless kayaking?

The prospect of Dr Nate (Kyle Pryor) leaving Summer Bay is disastrous. And it’s not because there will be one less doctor in town. For so long, Nate’s pumped pecs as he kayaked shirtless was as familiar a sight in the Bay as Leah (Ada Nicodemou) at the Diner. Just one more paddle date, Nate? For old times’ sake?

It’s original and out there, but do we actually like it?

The return of Twin Peaks is offering some of the most head-scratchingly original TV right now. But is it just style over substance? Are you following the naked tree’s brain’s train of thought? And why there are now three Dale Coopers (Kyle MacLachlan)?

Director David Lynch says it will all make sense over the series’ 18 episodes. It’s just a case of whether today’s TV viewers, hungry for instant gratification, will stick around to find out…

Why is Toadie now a hero?

There’s something about the drunken Sonya (Eve Morey) storyline in Neighbours that doesn’t seem quite fair. Sure, she stole a kiss from Mark (Scott McGregor).

But let’s not forget it was her husband, Toadie (Ryan Moloney), who cheated on her with fake Dee Bliss (Madeleine West). With Sonya and Toadie’s marriage down the gurgler, it would stink to see Toadie move on.

Is this season of House Rules the most dramatic yet?

House Rules has delivered some jaw-dropping moments this season – and they’re not just the choice of bathroom tiles. It’s what has come out
of the contestants’ mouths – like Troy saying that judge (and award-winning architect) Drew Heath “hasn’t got a clue”. Or Fiona calling Troy and Bec “village idiots”.

Oh, and don’t forget the flying piece of glass that felled poor Andrew. Let’s hope the drama dies down soon and the contestants can get back to renovating. After all, that’s what the show is meant to be about.

Just what we wanted for season two

Just as movie sequels can be tricky, second seasons can make or break TV shows. But the new season of Aussie drama Wanted is bigger, bolder and better than the first.

We’re loving watching Lola (Rebecca Gibney) and Chelsea’s (Geraldine Hakewill) adventures on the run, first in Thailand and then New Zealand.
