But that’s not the only heartbreak The Last Resort participant Sharday suffered as a youngster.

The 27-year-old tells TV WEEK she’s had a poor relationship with her father.

“We’ve had a rocky relationship,” Sharday, who once weighed 120kg, says. “We’ve never been close, so I don’t have much to do with him. Mum raised my brother and I, mainly.”

The mother-of-one says she always longed to be close to her dad. But things got worse between them when she started dating Josh, 25.

“Dad had a lot of control over me growing up,” Sharday says. “He never liked the idea of Josh and I together.

“When Josh and I started having problems, we bought a house. Then, we split and then I found out
I was pregnant.

“Mum and Dad came in as guarantors for the house, because I kept it. So, there were a whole heap of things that got under his skin. He never really got over that.”

And while the rest of her family was supportive of her decision to go on The Last Resort, her father wasn’t.

“When I told Dad, he said he wanted nothing to do with it,” Sharday says.

In fact, she was given an ultimatum.

“When filming started, Dad said if Josh and I came back [from Fiji] together, he’d be upset,” she explains.

“That really hurt me, because he was kind of saying, ‘Choose me or Josh.’

“We flat out just don’t get along, so I keep my distance.”

Of the experiment, Sharday says she had to deal with the issues with her dad so she could move forward with Josh.

“Sandy [Rea, the show’s resident psychologist] helped me work though all of that,” she explains. “I’m a completely different person now.

“When I came back, I basically told Dad, ‘Your opinion is your opinion, but I’m an adult, so whether you like me or not, that’s it.’”
