The Block 2018 is just around the corner and we cannot WAIT!
We’ve seen 14 seasons of the renovation reality show since its conception in 2003, 15 years ago. The series filmed two seasons in 2003 and 2004 in Bondi and Manly respectively, and was hosted by Jamie Durie!
The Block was later revived in 2010 and featured our favourite tradie Scott Cam in hosting duties. Each auction thereafter yielded massive results.
The highest amount of money won by a winning Block couple goes to Darren and Deanne Jolly when they returned for Triple Threat in 2015 and walked away with a cool $935,000.
As we count down the days till the Block’s Gatwick, we’ll look back some of our favourite contestants from The Block see what they’re up to now…
Dan and Dani: This go-getter pair were in season 5 and All Stars but continued their on-screen career. Dan is Foreman Keith’s right-hand man on the renovation show, and Dani is running a blog called Basic Habitat and hosts Healthy Homes TV. The engaged couple also launched a design business called Red Door Project and will soon be getting married!
Bec and George: Bec and George Douros had a turbulent time on the reno reality show due the tragic loss of Bec’s mother to breast cancer during filming. The couple carried on with the show, and then went on to renovate their own home as well as start a building and design business, Nectar. Bec and George have since had a beautiful baby boy, Archie, and are expecting another baby soon!
Kyal and Kara: Since coming third on auction day of Fans vs Faves, the Super K’s continue to dominate the renovating space. These full-time renovators regularly appear on Channel 10’s The Living Room, run a successful design and construction business, and also have their own website. We don’t know how they juggle all this with their toddler, Ziya Christopher, who was born a month after their final episode!
Michael and Carlene: Winning numerous challenges and room reveals during the season, Michael and Carlene weren’t going to leave the renovating space any time soon. These fan favourites now specialise in home-styling consultancy services as well as property styling, and just hosted Ready, Set, Reno, their own renovation show on 9Life.
Dale and Sophie: Despite placing fourth in season 5 of The Block, Dale and Sophie Vine walked away with over $350K, which is more than some past winners could’ve hoped for. Since then, the couple have had two baby boys and successful career – Sophie launched a natural children’s line, Vine of the Wild, and Dale is continuing with his landscaping business.
Kingi and Caro: Coined the King and Queen of The Block by host Scott Cam, Kingi and Caro ranked as the highest-scoring couple in the show’s history. After taking the judges’ advice, this down-to-earth couple have since launched KCT Creative Rendering, operating in Townsville and Australia-wide. They also welcomed baby number 2 in mid-November, Hendrix Pau.
Brad and Lara: After winning season 5 and taking home a whopping $606,000, Brad and Lara Cranfield did what any true Aussies would – buy a pub. The couple transformed the Maryville Tavern in Newcastle after an eight-month reno, all the while caring for a brand new bub. Brad also teamed up with Dale to take part in Fans V Faves.
Darren and Deanne: This driven couple had a second chance at The Block after only making $10,000 on Glasshouse. Dee and Daz Jolly returned for Triple Threat and made a whopping $935,000! Since then, the couple launched their interior design and building company – D + D Home.
Simon and Shannon: Since winning Glasshouse in 2014, loveable brothers Simon and Shannon Vos haven’t stopped. Simon now runs a construction company, while Shannon manages an interior design business (and is a dad to little boy, Dusty).
Alisa and Lysandra: Sister duo and bathroom queens Alisa and Lysandra Fraser proved to be double the trouble, featuring in back-to-back seasons of The Block. After winning season 7, the twins returned to take silver in Fans V Faves. Nowadays, they’re running their own online store and interior design business, as well as renovating their own home and taking care of their kids.
Dean and Shay: Starring in Octagon in 2015 and emerging victorious, Dean and Shay Paine have enjoyed settling into the simple country life. This couple love to travel and share their adventures on their blog, The Gathering Folk. They also recently welcomed baby boy Vinnie Clifford, to join bigger sister Everly.
Will and Karlie: The show’s 2016 winners walked home with a massive $815,000, and they may soon be returning to the small screen. Having recently met up with former co-stars Julia and Sasha, Will says he is open to the idea of returning to the show with one of the girls, while Karlie isn’t quite as keen (the sleep-deprivation is intense!). These fan favourites also got married earlier this year, enjoying the Byron Bay wedding of their dreams.
Julia and Sasha: Sasha Wright-Neville and Julia Treuel came second on last year’s season, netting a cool $660,000. They’re currently renovating a new home (which they’ve dubbed Little Willow) and Julia is a columnist for [Interiors Addict].
Ben and Andy: The two mates made $510,000 in profit for their Block home in 2016 and are lapping up the fame that being on the show has given them. Andy and Ben are ambassadors for [The Unite Project], a foundation for youth homelessness, and have a weekend radio show in Geelong.
