Fans of The Big Bang Theory will soon being saying farewell to the beloved show. The long-running multi-camera comedy series will wrap up when Season 12 airs in early 2019.
Chuck Lorre, the series creator, confirmed the news in a statement along with Warner Bros. Television and CBS.
“We are forever grateful to our fans for their support of The Big Bang Theory during the past twelve seasons,” the statement reads.
“We, along with the cast, writers and crew, are extremely appreciative of the show’s success and aim to deliver a final season, and series finale, that will bring The Big Bang Theory to an epic creative close.”
The Big Bang Theory stars Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch.
Kaley (who plays Penny) shared a cast photo, with a tribute to the show, on Instagram.
“This ride has been a dream come true and as life changing as it gets,” Kaley wrote in the caption.
“No matter when it was going to end , my heart would have always been broken in two. Drowning in tears, we promise to bring you the best season yet. To the fans, our crew, families, Chuck Lorre, Warner Brothers , CBS, and everyone who has supported us for so many years, thank you. We are goin out with a bang!”
The news has come as a shock to some fans, especially considering CBS Entertainment President Kelly Kahl told reporters that the network wasn’t done with the hit show.
“We don’t believe it’s the final year. We are in preliminary discussions to renew the show with Warner Bros.,” she revealed at the Television Critics Association summer press tour.
Unfortunately for fans, reports of a thirteenth season were just too good to be true.
The twelfth and final season of The Big Bang Theory will air in 2019.
