He scored the first single date of the season and now, The Bachelorette’s Jarrod Woodgate is keen to take his relationship with Sophie Monk to the next step.
Chatting to TV WEEK about the one-on-one time he spent with the former popstar, Jarrod admits he took it very seriously.
“I treated it as if it was our three month mark,” the vineyard manager reveals.
“I didn’t want to hold back but I felt comfortable with Sophie to open up more.”
Before stepping out of the limo on night one, Jarrod was a firm favourite to win Sophie’s heart.
However, this has now changed with many viewers labelling the 31-year-old “obsessive” and a “stage-five clinger.”
But Jarrod won’t have a bar of it.
“You can’t walk in thinking it’s the first date. You have to walk into it and dig deep to find out what we want from each other,” Jarrod explains.
“It (the show) was emotionally the hardest thing I’ve ever done. I never thought I’d do anything like this but it’s amazing and life-changing.”
Despite the backlash, Jarrod says he and Sophie have a real connection.
“When I am with her, I see a normal human being,” Jarrod says.
“She is a strong woman who knows what she wants and is here to find love. She’s sick and tired of stuffing around and is so easy to be around, to be honest.”
As for the other guys, Jarrod isn’t fazed.
“At times Sophie has asked me about the guys and I’m like ‘We don’t need to talk about them’,” Jarrod laughs.
“I learnt coming into the house that there are other alpha males who may want take charge, and I didn’t want to stress my brain with it. I’m focussing on me and Sophie.
“The person I have got to know is a beautiful person and I can definitely see us building a life together.”
