We’ve only seen two episodes so far of this season of The Bachelorette Australia but we couldn’t love Sophie Monk any more than we do right now.
We’re not going to lie, initially we were hesitant at the thought of a celeb Bachelorette taking the reins. But we are so glad we were proven wrong!
Here, we pulled together the reasons why we – and the rest of Australia – have fallen in love with her.
It’s ratings gold
Sophie’s turn at finding love has broken the record for the highest-rating launch of the Aussie versions of The Bachelor AND The Bachelorette. Yep, that means she beat Matty Johnson, Sam Frost and even Sam Wood! An average of 1.22 million viewers tuned in to watch Wednesday’s episode and we’re sure that number is going to grow, especially if these tweets are any indication.
She’s comedic gold
Sophie has no filter and that’s what makes the show so funny to watch. This is the girl who once said: “I got suspended for writing ‘I love Sophie’ on the desks to make the other boys think I was popular” and “I love the Pope because he plays hard to get.” The best part of the show is wondering how she’s going to put her foot in her mouth next.
She’s happy to make fun of herself
Speaking to 2DayFM’s Em Rusciano and Harley Breen, Sophie revealed she had to beg to be on The Bachelorette. “It was like a week of talking,” she said. “I went to them. They didn’t want me! I said to them, please? How desperate – they didn’t even ask me. I begged. I flew myself and everything.”
Any woman that can confess something mortifying like that to the entire world scores A+ levels of respect in our books. It’s that kind of endearing, hilarious honesty that makes her so relatable.
She’s a self-confessed bogan
In one of the first promos for the series, she said: “I know I’m not your typical Bachelorette. I’m a massive bogan.”
“I really hope Australia understands that I really want to find something genuine and backs me on this and don’t think I’m a tool.”
Now, we’re a nation full of bogans so to have someone like Sophie Monk as the figurehead of one of the most successful reality dating shows, well, we don’t think we’ve ever been more proud to be Australian.
She genuinely wants to find love
She’s had a career in fame, lived overseas, dated rockstars and Hollywood stars but Sophie has been unlucky in love up ‘til this point. And we really want to watch her find someone who’s deserving of her! Someone who doesn’t want her just for her celeb status and access to big-name stars. Luckily, she’s admitted she HAS found that person (we just don’t know who it is yet!)
