The 26-year-old from NSW didn’t waste any time asking Sophie Monk what her intentions are for being the The Bachelorette.

And while it may have been uncomfortable for us to watch at home, Ryan says he had every right to ask the hard-hitting question.

“I’m pretty upfront and honest so I certainly questioned Sophie’s intentions,” Ryan tells TV WEEK.

“It was playing on my mind how a woman that successful, who is always in the public eye, is very well spoken – everyone that’s had something to do with her has fallen in love with her so I guess I wasn’t sure if she was really looking for love.

“You’d be naïve to walk onto a reality show and just believe that person is really looking for love. I wanted to see if she was here for what she said. I happened to come across an article before I progressed in the auditions and stuff that said she had dated people previously to further her career. That was something I couldn’t let go and it was playing on my mind about so I just came out and asked her.”

Ryan wasted no time in asking Sophie her intentions.

While Ryan does admit he may have come across quite ‘intense’, he doesn’t regret a thing.

“I think she was a bit startled to be honest. I don’t think she really expected it. I think she thought us guys would come in on a platter for her but we all put our lives on hold. We’re all away from our families for a long period of time; we’re all away from our friends. We all put our careers on hold for an opportunity to meet her so I just wanted to make sure she was here for what she says she was. If she wasn’t, there wasn’t much point of me being there.”

In fact, he thought his honest approach had paid off until he was left standing in the bottom four during the rose ceremony.

“It crossed my mind I might be leaving on the first night after that,” Ryan explains.

“But she did want to see more from me. Sophie is an amazing woman.”
