For over eight years, we’ve watched both American and British teens navigate some of motherhood’s biggest challenges (albeit, in the most dramatic fashion possible) on MTV series Teen Mom.
Now the show is about to feel a little closer to home, with MTV announcing on Monday an open cast call for the first series of Teen Mom Australia.
Although we have to admit our inner perfectionist is a little unsettled that the show’s spelling hasn’t had the mom/mum tweak, we can look forward to the ten-part series which will premiere exclusively in 2019 on Foxtel’s MTV channel.
The franchise is expected to be a hit on our shores, with more than 7.4 million Aussies already tuning into the US and UK versions of the show.
Simon Bates, the Vice President and Head of MTV Asia Pacific weighed in on the move.
“Teen Mom resonates with Australian viewers because the show is ultimately non-judgemental and honest, and the success of the US and UK Teen Mom franchises with Australian audiences has been incredibly positive” he says.
“With a great team and brilliant format, we’re thrilled to bring our very first, locally produced Aussie take to this show that we are confident our viewers will love”
If the US series is anything to go by, the one thing we know for sure is that we won’t be short on drama and a whole lot of tears.
The series has produced a number of iconic and sometimes controversial characters over the years, including Farrah Abrahams and Maci McKinney.
