When the Today show overhauled their breakfast line-up after months of bad press following host Karl Stefanovic, newsreader Sylvia Jeffreys became collateral damage.

While brother-in-law Karl was axed from the hosting role, Sylvia was shifted to a new gig at A Current Affair while her husband Peter Stefanovic as booted off the Nine Network altogether.

And in a new interview with The Kyle & Jackie O show on Wednesday, the 33-year-old shared further insight into how tough it really was.

“I thought all sorts of things at the time because it was a really weird time to be perfectly honest and there’s no reason to be beating around the bush on there, I think it’s been so heavily documented,” she said.

“It was a strange time – mass upheaval.”

The TV star also revealed that the Today cast had been blindsided by the changes, which also saw sports reporter Tim Gilbert axed and entertainment reporter Richard “Dickie” Wilkins sidelined to Today Extra.

“We didn’t see it coming. Not to that extent. I think something had to give, there’s no doubt about that and it did eventually. Externally the pressure was massive,” she said

Sylvia added that it had been a difficult time for them all when they lost their high-profile gigs, including her personally.

“It did test me. Because everyone had their say whether they were on the inside or not and everyone had their two cents to throw in so it was testing, there’s no doubt about that.

“[There were] big changes for my husband, big changes for me at the same time, big changes for my brother-in-law. There’s no point pretending that’s easy and fun and delightful.”

But despite the tricky time, Sylvia insisted that everyone is now doing much better than they were six months ago and are all in a good place.

And with the ink not yet dry on a new four-year deal for Sylvia at the network, it’s onwards and upwards!
