It looks like Georgie Gardner and Karl Stefanovic can’t seem to catch a break.
It’s been a rather intense 12 months at the Nine Network from Lisa Wilkinson walking out, to Karl and his brother Peter Stefanovic coming under fire following the Ubergate debacle.
It would appear the dust has yet to settle with the breakfast show falling short in the ratings war.
Confidential reports, “Today has suffered its worst ratings in four years.”
The show’s competitor Sunrise with Channel 7’s lead stars David Koch and Samantha Armytage, has come out on top.
A reminder of that secret recording!
The numbers reveal that over the 40 week rating period, Sunrise has taken out the number one spot the most times – lending themselves to the coveted title of Australia’s number one breakfast show for 2018.
Confidential claims that the series has won 22 of 23 weeks across the five metro city audiences.
Sadly, Today has been unable to match the same numbers.
How Channel Nine reacted to Ubergate
What does this mean for the Today show?
The publication allege that the bosses as Nine are concerned.
“Bosses would be well aware that this was a hard sell. It was widely known that Karl and Georgie were not close and then when the Uber story came out it went worse,” a media insider claimed.
“It would be disappointing to be beaten so consistently but probably not totally surprising.”
Channel 7 have spoken out about their big win.
Remaining humble – they said: “This is the strongest performance for Sunrise in four years.”
“But no crowing from us just yet. We remain focused on the next half of the year.”
The Nine Network haven’t commented as of yet.
