Sophie Monk is about to return to our screens as the host of Love Island Australia.
And let’s be frank – we’re bloody excited.
The blonde bombshell had us cackling and crying as the Bachelorette, and now one year later, she’ll be imparting her knowledge with genetically blessed singles on the Channel Nine dating show.
For all your questions about the 38-year-old, we give you a crash course on all things Sophie Monk.
Who is Sophie Monk?
Beautiful, talented and wickedly funny – Sophie Monk has been a household name since 1999.
The 38-year-old was born in London on the 14th December 1979, before moving to the Gold Coast with her parents when she was just two years old.
A classical trained opera singer before she found fame, Sophie worked as a Marilyn Monroe impersonator at Warner Bros. Movie World.
Why is Sophie Monk famous?
Bardot days
Many fans will recognise Sophie Monk from her numerous TV appearances including Celebrity Apprentice, Australia’s Got Talent and her regular stints on radio.
But the beloved Aussie first became famous as a singer in 1999 thanks to a little reality TV show called Popstars.
The talent series was on the search for a brand-new girl group.

Sophie, who auditioned with a rendition of Marilyn Monroe’s famous Happy Birthday, Mr. President, blew away the judges and was hand-picked to join Chantelle Barry, Belinda Chapple, Sally Polihronas and Katie Underwood to form Bardot.
Chantelle was ultimately fired from the group following allegations of stealing.
Tiffani Wood was picked as her replacement and thus the nation fell in love with their first-ever reality TV girl group.
After multiple hits including Poison and ASAP, the girls called it a day with their final song, 2002 hit Love Will Find a Way.
The group released an official statement, which read: “Bardot confirm their mutual decision to end the group’s career. Belinda Chapple, Sophie Monk, Sally Polihronas and Tiffany Wood have cited the need for a well earned break following what has been a phenomenal 2.5 year explosion on the Australian music scene.”
“The pace at which the group’s career continued from its inception at the first Australian Popstars TV show auditions to the completion of a 3rd single from their second album Play It Like That has taken its toll.”
Looking back on the experience Sophie admits it was extremely challenging.
“I think being famous overnight, I wouldn’t be surprised if I had post traumatic stress disorder. There is some s–t I will reveal one day,” she said in 2015.
“It’s just not normal for everyone to know you all of the sudden. I don’t speak to the girls anymore, it’s like school, we grew apart,” she said.
Sophie goes solo
Following the end of Bardot, Sophie launched her solo career in October 2002 with her first single, Inside Outside.
The now-38-year-old had three singles before focusing on her other love – acting.
Stepping into the shoes of Marilyn Monroe, Sophie made her debut in the telemovie The Mystery of Natalie Wood in 2004.

She went on to have a few roles in Hollywood in films like Click and Murder World but her biggest comedy coup was in 2006 after landing a coveted gig in Date Movie.
The actress has also done her fair share of reality TV.
In Australia, her most notable work includes taking out fourth season of The Celebrity Apprentice Australia and being the judge on eighth season of Australia’s Got Talent.
And as it turns out, Sophie has been a Bachelorette before!
In 2012, she was one of the celebrities featured on the US dating show The Choice.
The series was a spin-off to The Voice and sees celebrity judges sitting with their backs turned to a pool of “sexy singles” hoping to score a date with a star.
Sophie has also had an illustrious career in radio working across 2DayFm and as a regular on the Kyle and Jackie O show.

Sophie Monk does Playboy
She’s also done extensive modelling and achieved a lifelong dream of posing for Playboy.
In 2008 and 20011 Sophie was offered $1 million but at the time declined.
Three years later in 2014, the talented Aussie accepted their offer and posed for their website Playboy Plus.
“Marilyn Monroe did Playboy. It’s an iconic brand, and let’s get real, you only live once and I don’t plan on dieting forever… I miss pizza too much,” she said at the time.
