Samantha Armytage, who has appeared on Sunrise since 2013, has spoken uncertainly about her future as a breakfast television presenter.
Speaking with The Daily Telegraph, the 41-year-old said she doesn’t know if she’ll recommit to the brekkie program after 2018.
“Life has to evolve and wherever it evolves, I don’t know,” she told the publication. “I honestly haven’t thought about it too much just yet.”
She added: “I never expected to get this job. I hope it continues a bit longer but mornings are a hard slog and I don’t know what the future holds.”
It comes amid speculation she’s been headhunted by rival Network Ten.
The broadcast journalist is an Aussie favourite and she’s a network executive’s dream host: intelligent, bubbly, and not afraid to stir up some controversy. So it comes as little surprise that she’s being “eyed” by the opposing network.
As reported by The Daily Telegraph, Network Ten, under ownership of broadcasting giant CBS, has hushed plans for a big-budget breakfast show hosted by the veteran journo.
Reportedly, CBS is firming up the deal now and has plans to air the program late next year.
The timing could not be better for Sam and Network Ten with the morning host’s five-year contract with Channel 7 ending next year.
Although the morning show host has made headlines for inadvertently butting heads with celebrities like Kathy Griffin and Kristin Davis, it’s reported that CBS believe having Sam on board will draw audiences away from ratings winner Channel Seven and give Network Ten a needed boost.
Sam has so far refused to discuss any negotiations with Network Ten or CBS.
