Rove McManus is heading back to do what he does best – bring big laughs to the small screen.
The TV and radio star has been announced as the host of Ten’s latest panel program, Show Me The Movie.
The comedy quiz show features two teams, led by comedian Joel Creasey and former Offspring star, Jane Harber.
The teams will battle it out to prove who the biggest movie buffs are.
“I’m excited to start work on this new show and very happy to be back at TEN, especially since it will give me a good opportunity to hang out with my old friends Pete, Carrie and Hughesy at the network cafeteria,” he says.
According to the press release, the show will cover everything from big-budget Hollywood blockbusters to sci-fi, animation and chick flicks.
It will also celebrate the good, the bad and the ugly of the big screen – the stars, A-list gossip, iconic movie dialogue and classic cinematic moments all get a comedy make-over.
And, as TV Tonight reports, it won’t be too long until we see Show Me The Movie on our screens. It’s set to air at 7.30pm on Thursday night from March 22 on TEN.
The concept was created by Paul Clarke, of Spicks & Specks fame, and will follow a similar format, with a rotating roster of domestic and international talent joining the teams.
The move marks a long heralded return to primetime TV for Rove, who has been a fixture on screens since Rove Live debuted way back in 1999.
The three time Gold Logie winner has been open about his desire to return to TV, recently telling TV Week there was audience appetite for light entertainment.
“Without pointing fingers, there are a lot of very similar shows on air at the moment,” he says.
“There are, of course, plenty of programs guests can turn up on, but there’s no show dedicated to just that – light entertainment. And I think there’s a hunger for it.”
Show Me The Movie will air on Thursday, 22 March at 7.30pm on TEN.
