Roseanne was cancelled by the US ABC Network just two months ago, after leading lady Roseanne Barr made offensive comments about one of Barack Obama’s former senior advisers on Twitter. Now, the spin-off series set to replace it has been given a premiere date.

The Roseanne revival series had only just finished airing it’s first season, and was expected to return later this year for another 13 episodes, when it was pulled by the ABC. Network Ten, who aired the show in Australia, also pulled the remaining episodes from their schedule.

Last month, ABC confirmed they would be moving ahead with a spin-off series, The Conners, featuring some of the original cast. The new series will premiere in mid-October in the United States.

The Conners is set to focus on Sara Gilbert (Darlene Conner), along with returning stars John Goodman (Dan Conner), Laurie Metcalf (Jackie Harris), Michael Fishman (D.J. Conner) and Lecy Goransen (Becky Conner).

“The Conners’ stories demonstrate that families can always find common ground through conversation, laughter and love. The spin-off will continue to portray contemporary issues that are as relevant today as they were 30 years ago,” ABC says of the new show.

“Roseanne Barr will have no financial or creative involvement in the new series,” the network also confirmed.

When the spin-off was confirmed, Roseanne stars John, Laurie, Sara, Lecy and Michael shared a joint statement.

“We have received a tremendous amount of support from fans of our show, and it’s clear that these characters not only have a place in our hearts, but in the hearts and homes of our audience. “We all came back last season because we wanted to tell stories about the challenges facing a working-class family today.

“We are so happy to have the opportunity to return with the cast and crew to continue to share those stories through love and laughter.”
