It’s been two days since the shocking news that longtime Today show host Lisa Wilkinson was leaving her position at Nine and joining Network Ten’s The Project.
Many fans and colleagues have expressed their well wishes to the veteran journalist, including her soon-to-be co-hosts, Waleed Aly and Carrie Bickmore.
This morning, Lisa’s husband of 25 years Peter FitzSimons opened up about the “intense couple of days” and how it feels to be able to reconnect with her.
Speaking on Nova 96.9’s Fitzy and Wippa show, he said: “I’m very proud of Lisa Wilkinson but I will let her speak for herself.
“We had dinner last night with the kids and I’d forgotten the pleasure of being with your partner when somebody doesn’t have to get up at 3.30am,” he continued.
“We were talking until midnight and it was just fantastic.
“I said to her ‘jeez I had forgotten what this is like where it’s just the two of you’. And I thought, you know tonight we might go to the movies!
“Every weeknight you go ‘well it’s lovely to be with you but I’ll tell you what, I’ve got something on my mind because tomorrow I’m interviewing somebody or doing something’.
