Earlier this year, talks of a Packed to the Rafters revival swept across the nation and we’ve since been waiting patiently to see if we’d be reunited with the kooky Rafters clan.
Now, thanks to IF Magazine, fans can officially begin celebrating as a revival with the original cast has been CONFIRMED.
As expected, the new season won’t be available on free-to-air TV and will instead be available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
According to the publication, Seven Studios is working on Back to the Rafters, which will be the first Australian drama commission by Amazon Prime. The streaming service has also reportedly acquired the streaming rights to the original series, which aired for six seasons from 2008.
The publication claims that the original cast will return, along with creator Bevan Lee.
Yep, that would mean we’ll be reuniting with Julie (Rebecca Gibney), Dave (Erik Thomson), Rachel (Jessica Marais), Ben (Hugh Sheridan), Nathan (Angus McLaren) and of course little Ruby, who will be all grown up.
Not to mention Grandpa Ted (Michael Caton) and other favourites like Jake (James Stewart), Coby (Ryan Corr), Carbo (George Houvardas), Loretta (Hannah Marshall) and Frankie (Brooke Satchwell).
Rebecca, who is starring in the upcoming Nine Network reboot HALIFAX: Retribution, recently told TV WEEK she would love to reunite with her former Rafters co-stars.
“I’d love to work with Jess again,” the actress says, revealing she also has an idea for how a revival could play out.
“We joke about heading to the Kimberley and Ruby going missing,” she says. “Or we’re in salty country battling crocodiles… we’re joking, but who knows?
“We’ve finished this chapter, but that doesn’t mean to say Rafters won’t come back in some other form.”
Meanwhile, Hugh recently revealed he was keen to return to the role that made him a household name.
“I love the show and I really, really love playing Ben Rafter,” Hugh tells TV WEEK. “I miss him, and I miss playing that character everyday!
“Obviously, they sold the house, so it would have to be somewhere else. But I think it would be about what has happened in their lives over the last 10 years and where they are now.”
We can’t wait for this one!
