Fans of Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire’s (Caitriona Balfe) love story on Outlander will be happy to know that Starz, who make the time-travelling series, are in “early talks” to renew the show for a fifth season.

Chris Parnell, Sony TV’s co-president of programming, told EW Radio that they want to start making a move on the new season asap.

“In order to keep this show year by year and not have a Droughtlander, we had better start hustling on season 5 right now,” he said.

“I can tell you there are early talks on us doing that, to absolutely not have an extended Droughtlander like we’ve had before. That’s the goal.”

The show is currently approaching its season three finale and is following the loved-up couple as they make their way to Jamaica.

Outlander, which is based on the best-selling book series by Diana Gabaldon, has already begun production on season four in Scotland and will be based on the fourth book in Diana’s series, Drums of Autumn.

Chris confessed that he’s keen to continue the fan-loved series until the final book (Diana is currently writing a ninth edition).

Tackling the high seas!

“I’ll tell you that I’m in this to tell Diana’s story to completion,” he said.

“We want to deliver Outlander all the way through, just like Diana wants to deliver it all the way through. Where she leads it, we want to bring it there. I believe in my heart that our friends at Starz want to do the same thing. The worst thing that can happen is if we ended this prematurely.”

So, there you have it. Outlander will live on for many years to come!
