Ready, set, binge-watch!
If you’re an Orange Is The New Black fan, we needn’t remind you that season five is available to watch on Netflix TODAY. It’s no wonder why there are so few people in the TV WEEK office…
But before you dim the lights and morph into a couch potato, here’s a sneak peek into what you can expect for season five.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, OITNB star Danielle Brooks has revealed the lengths her character Taystee and the ladies of Litchfield will go to for justice. Suffice to say, you won’t want to miss it.
In last season’s cliff-hanger, a riot broke out after the tragic death of Poussey (Samira Wiley). In the final heart-pounding moments, viewers watched as Daya (Dascha Polanco) held a guard at gunpoint while her fellow inmates encouraged her to pull the trigger.
In the premiere, the gun will go off and the prison will be thrown into chaos.
“It’s like a tornado hit Litchfield,” Danielle, 27, says. “Every major storm that you could ever think about is hitting Litchfield,” says Brooks. “We’re going to see these women take charge.”
But uniting as one with a cell block of criminals is just the tip of their troubles. Having been shut out from the world for so long, uprising leader Taystee struggles to communicate her demands.
“You see them figuring out, ‘How can we communicate this strong message to the world and get prison reform?’” Danielle says. “She’s trying to form a new foundation with a system that’s completely broken.”
The actress goes on to describe season five as her “one of her favourites” which not only sees Taystee standing up for herself, but defending the honour of her late friend Poussey.
“I love that [Taystee] is going balls to the wall this season and I think it’s a really, really, beautiful season,” she says. “We’re watching her try to fight for her life as well as fighting for justice for her friend.
